The landfill is regulated by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and in order for us to remain in compliance we must follow their requirements. Accepted waste must originate from within Russell County. All loose trash must be bagged to prevent blowing. Please tarp and secure all loads taken to the landfill, help keep Russell County clean. Only tree limbs, trunks, large branches, and brush may be burned. No lumber will be burned. Please help us to keep trash and other inappropriate items out of the Burn/Tree Pile.
Russell County Landfill does not accept Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). Residents may dispose of their HHW at the Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off Day which is held two times each year. The drop off site is at the Noxious Weed Department at 205 S. Front St., Russell, KS on the scheduled days only.
Accepted items: paint, stains, varnishes, indoor/outdoor insecticides, weed killer, and drain cleaners. This is for household waste only. No Commercial hazardous waste, medical waste, used motor oil, batteries or mercury. Dry and empty paint cans may be put into your regular trash.

On days with high wind, Russell County may be forced to close the Landfill due to blowing trash. Before you head to the Landfill on high wind days, please check notifications on this website, call ahead or listen to KRSL Radio to be certain it is open.
